Corus EVC modernisation
Multi-stage modernisation of Corus electronic volume correctors for Nordion Energi / Weum Gas: protocol implementation, higher readout frequency, external power and a 4G modem rollout.
The problem
Nordion Energi / Weum Gas had legacy Corus electronic volume correctors that needed dependable collection for hourly readout and then a path through the 2G network shutdown.
What Henrik owned
Henrik implemented the proprietary I-FLAG protocol, mapped firmware-specific value layouts, designed the externally powered modem solution and led u9n’s field installation work.
Work delivered
- Implemented the proprietary I-FLAG protocol
- Mapped and supported value layouts across 30 device firmware variants
- Added external power so readout frequency could increase to hourly for new settlement rules
- Designed a 4G modem solution with external power
- Coordinated construction of 150 modem boxes
- Led u9n’s field installation work for its half of the modem rollout
Technical approach
The project evolved in stages: first making the proprietary device protocol reliable across firmware variants, then preparing powered hourly readout, and finally replacing obsolete 2G communication with externally powered 4G modem boxes.
Where it stands
Hourly readout and 4G modernisation were delivered for the legacy electronic volume corrector fleet.
